  1. Hey Phoebe, I did the same, although to my surname, my mother and step father made me change my name when I was a teen so I changed it back to my dad’s name. My real name is actually Miranda not Scarlett, I used that name when I started blogging and didn’t want to be recognised but I haven’t worked for a long time now so it doesn’t matter really. Phoebe is a great name too btw.

I’m sorry, my comment made no sense, I should have proofed it!

With the hallucinations, my friend Jeff (not Neighsayer – another Jeff) hears voices and they often put him down. That seems to be related to how he’s been dealt with by doctors, family and – well everyone in the past, for him that’s the hardest part to deal with.

I meant to say that it must be hard not to doubt yourself with the experts telling you this abuse was good for you, which seemed to me nothing short of torture, I’m very sorry you went through that.

I also don’t bother writing as much, I used to bang out two blogs a day at least, some of them thousands of words long but if it’s over 1,000 no one will read it no matter the topic. I do small bites now, when I feel motivated, I try not to be to heavy but you can’t escape your nature right?

  2. Hi Scarlett, Wow, yes absolutely, if I understand your last sentence correctly. But I am not sure I do. In what sense do you mean Doubt myself? Doubt that my experiences are real, like hallucinations and stuff, or doubt that such abuses happened because the perpetrators et al simply lie about it? Both are valid observations by the way, but I wanted to make sure I understood what YOU meant…

Thanks for visiting Wagblog. I do not write a lot here any more, but today I posted a slide show from my DC talk that is coming up…I no longer have the energy to write the pages and pages I used to, esp when I realize that almost no one bothers to read them…

    Peace, and thanks again!

Phoebe (did I let you know I am changing my name from the hated Pamela to Phoebe, which has been my secret name for myself since forever…)

  3. Its tough to hear this had happened to you, I’m really sorry, you’re such a lovely creative lady and to be treated so badly, it’s unforgivable.

Your descriptions fit something centuries ago not, the modern era.

I have a friend who is schizophrenic, he’s also very talented, a great musician, his stories are not dissimilar. It must be hard for you not to doubt yourself with so many people willing to assure you that you should.

  6. To the contrary, I think it was better when we did not drug people but treated them as the Quakers did, with respect and human kindness and with the expectation that they would get well and remain human in the process.

  7. Reblogged this on Marie Abanga's Blog and commented:
I have personally seen Pam in a hospital and although it wasn’t in one of those where she was so abused, I found the treatment of her and other there denigrating. I am glad Pam has stood through it all for over 40 good years. Sharing her experiences and view and being so candid is an awesome thing to do. Thanks Pam for Sharing and advocating this forecully.

  8. Pamela, are you aware of the work of Dr. Abram Hoffer who treated more than 5000 ‘schizophrenics’ with a change in diet and micronutrients? He never abused anyone and he never took away hope.
